The Russia and CIS EdTech 100 is HolonIQ's annual list of the 100 most promising EdTech startups in the region across the whole learner lifecycle from Pre-K to Lifelong Learning.
HolonIQ’s second annual Russia and CIS EdTech 100 includes EdTech startups from Russia and five CIS countries. From uses of advanced technology in learning to workforce up-skilling, language learning, test prep and online learning, startups in the 2021 cohort are reimagining education access, delivery and impact across the whole learner journey from PreK through to Workforce.

This year sees a relatively young cohort with 50% being formed less than 6 years ago, some teams starting their enterprise in 2020 or 2021, during the height of the pandemic, including Kazakhstani tech bootcamp Qwant and online school for kids, Skysmart. Just over a third of the 2021 cohort are between seven and 10 years old, which is indicative of the time it generally takes for EdTech start-ups to gain traction.

EdTech providing solutions across the lifecycle
Similar to last year, EdTech is strong in workforce and skills with teams such as internship platform Neupusti, and online upskilling solutions Skypro and Units. However, EdTech is working in all parts of education and training with strong representation in STEAM solutions such as online kids coding school Kodland and SkillFactory which offers data science and machine learning courses.
Education management is also a strong segment in the 2021 cohort as EdTech start-ups support schools, universities and companies to deliver digital learning solutions and administrative efficiencies – Smart School Pro which provides a digital platform for pre-schools and course creation platform CoreApp are examples in this categories.
Language Learning is always strong in Russia and CIS with newer teams like Basenji Apps (Belarus) and AllRight (Russia) along with more established startups such as Skyeng (Russia) and EnglishDom (Ukraine).

To be eligible, startups must be less than 10 years old, are either headquartered in the region, or predominately focused on this market (e.g. > 80% revenue/customers, and are pre exit (not acquired or listed) or not a subsidiary of a larger company or controlled by an investor group (e.g. via private equity buyout or controlling investment). Russia & CIS EdTech 100 ориентирован на выявление молодых, быстрорастущих и новаторских, обучающихся и повышающих квалификацию стартапов, работающих в регионе.
